Brading Horticultural Society.
The first show was held in November 1929 and is now held on the 1st Wednesday in October each year. Exhibitors must reside in the parish of Brading, Alverstone and Yaverland, or be a member of Brading W.I.
There are classes for Flowers, Fruit, Vegetables, Handicrafts,Cookery and Preserves, Wine, Photography, Childrens Classes,and Flower arranging.
We have redesigned the schedule, and this year we are having some open classes for Chrysanthemum and the Top Tray Vegetable competition. The Show is organized by a committee of volunteers, but friends of the show are welcome to help around show time, and maybe offer some new ideas.
The present committee are, Chairman Robert Cox, 01983 407232, Secretary Pat Stay,01983 407718, Treasurer Gill Lea, 01983 407271, will be pleased to give further details. Mary Hunter,Tim Stay,Tina Derry,Jill Barton, Ruth Bridgeland,Bob Belhomme, Jan Cox, Pat and Dave Cassell., Isabel and Bert Saban, and Dave and Jeanette Edmonds, who all work very hard and give so much of their time to allow the show to cotinue.
 FUNDS Funds for the show are raised by generous donations by many local people and the raffle prizes kindly donated by businesses. The grand raffle is held on the evening of the show, after the auction of produce, the auctioneer being Nigel Thomas.
THE PRIMARY SCHOOL classes Each child attending the primary school takes part in the show as part of the school curriculum with writing, art and craft work, and good stuff they show too! Stepping Stones and the Methodist youth club also have their own class and are judged according to age

If you garden, cook or craft then have a go, its a lot of fun. You get Prize money too! Schedules will be available from May at Brading News agents and at Gillys, in The Heritage Centre 7,High Street.
2001 CONGRATULATIONS We entered the Bounds and Matthews Cup again and won the sheild for the best fruit classes, and won the cup for the highest marks in the best presented hall category. and 3rd overall. This is for the general running of the show, tidiness, and standard of presentation of the exhibits We were very proud of our exhibitors and of course ourselves. We shall enter again this year, and again hope to do well.

Brading W.I.
The W.I. hold their monthly meetings in Brading Town Hall 6.30pm for 7 start. on the 3rd Thursday of each month except June we meet at a members house, August, we plan an outing instead and December when the meeting is the FIRST THURSDAY because of Christmas. The meeting starts with a talk or demonstration. Social 1/2 hour while we have a cup of tea,followed by thebusiness part of the meeting. At most meetings there is a raffle, the monthly competition the best bloom.
